Local folks will tell you when you ask, that Roast-N-Boast in downtown Columbus, Mississippi has one of the best backyard division competitions in America. Well attended by serious cooks intent on serious fun, the citizens know to get off work early that weekend and watch something special in their historic town. Pit Masters come from surrounding states to win points and cash and reach for the brass ring to claim the title of Mississippi State BBQ Cooking Champion. These men and women have consistent methods that go with sharp knifes, honed in years of preparing competition smoked meats and presenting their efforts for judging.

Roast-N-Boast is a fund-raiser event to support the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Roast-N-Boast is special for time and place, an important part of the quality of life in Columbus. The Columbus Fairgrounds is set on a grassy level along McCray Creek and the Luxapallila Creek. The local folks have added some structures over the years to house their smoking rigs and to make a place to sit for the family, when they come by to visit and check on the cooking. Friends and family circulate and take in the great weather, talk about kids and sports and what makes growing up in Columbus special. College friends, students and alumni alike, are part of the Roast-N-Boast crowd every year, so wear your favorite school colors and you'll easily find someone to talk to. Come have a good experience.

Columbus is an historic city, home to our brilliant writer and favorite son Tennessee Williams. Columbus Air Force Base, just north of the city, is home to the 14th Flying Training Wing, part of the Air Education & Training Wing of the United States Air Force.

Make Roast-N-Boast a regular part of your Mississippi fall fun and be sure to tell 'em that you heard about them on the Mississippi BBQ Trail.
