Bar-B-Q by Jim on Commerce Street sits directly across from the front doors of the Bancorp South Arena in downtown Tupelo. Broad streets and greenways with blooming flowers will lead you from all points of town to Commerce Street, where Mr. Jim Beane is making breakfast, lunch, and dinner for locals and tourists from all over the world. Good food starts with good ingredients and patience in the kitchen. This tradition gives visiting celebrities like Willie Nelson and Vanna White a regular place to fix their craving for BBQ Ribs and feed their entourage.

Southern Traditions
Anyone familiar with Bar-B-Q by Jim nationwide knows that the menu will be loaded with authentic slow-cooked smoked meats, fresh vegetables, desserts, and Jim's own recipes. BBQ Baked Potato Bites will get you started and you can order a salad, Catfish, or a hand-cut Beef Rib-eye. But if fine pork recipes and barbecue are more to your liking, try the Pork Rib-eye with a Baked Sweet Potato, Roasted Corn and Haricotvert Green Beans. You can ask at the counter why it makes a difference to serve these green beans or you can simploy taste the diference. Jim Beane prepares your meals with only the best ingredients.

Bar-B-Q by Jim opened for business 1993. The original owner is still in the kitchen making sure every meal is just right. In Jim's words, "Once you get going things become pretty easy and repetitive. Repetitive except for one thing; the interactions with the people. The people make it all worth while. I think I may have said this before but I’ve always believed that our style of cooking was the most rewarding type there is. We not only cook the food but we serve it also. You get to see first hand how something you produced affects someone. In my everyday job as a software programmer, I don’t get to see how my work affects people at all. As I serve people, I try to make each encounter unique mostly because people are unique. The brief interaction is used to bring a smile to their faces as well as food to their plate."

Tupelo Main Street Association has helped business owners like Jim Beane in downtown Tupelo. Main Street is a group of local citizens that have adopted a successful and nationally-acclaimed model to maintain viable business and social centers in historic areas. "The Main Street Approach is a community-driven, comprehensive methodology used to revitalize older, traditional business districts throughout the United States. The Main Street Approach advocates a return to community self-reliance, local empowerment, and the rebuilding of traditional commercial districts based on their unique assets: distinctive architecture, a pedestrian-friendly environment, personal service, local ownership, and a sense of community."
